چکیده

The study aimed to compare the dentine wear of primary and permanent human and bovine teeth because of erosion/abrasion and evaluate if bovine dentine is an appropriate substitute for human dentine in further erosion/abrasions tests. Dentine samples from deciduous molars and human third molars as well as from calves' and cattle's lower incisors were prepared and baseline surface profiles were recorded. Each day all samples were demineralized in 1% citric acid, tooth brushed with 100 brushing strokes with toothpaste slurry and stored in artificial saliva for the rest of the day. This cycle was run for 20 days. Afterwards, new surface profiles were recorded and dentine wear was calculated by a customized computer program. Dentine wear because of erosion/abrasion was not statistically, significantly different for human third molars and cattle's lower incisors (P = 0.7002). The dentine wear because of erosion/abrasion of deciduous molars and calves' lower incisors was significantly different (P < 0.0000). No statistically significant difference in the dentine wear of human third molars and cattle's lower incisors was observed, so that the use of cattle's lower incisors as substitute for adult human teeth for further investigations in erosion/abrasion studies could be accepted.

Preventive effect of toothpastes with MMP inhibitors on human dentine erosion and abrasion in vitro

UNLABELLED The use of gels and mouthrinses with MMP inhibitors (chlorhexidine, and green tea extract) was shown to prevent erosive wear. The aim of this study was to analyze the protective effect of toothpastes containing MMP inhibitors on dentine loss induced by erosion in vitro. MATERIAL AND METHODS Five groups each containing 12 specimens of human root dentine were prepared. The specimens ...

Protective effect of different tetrafluorides on erosion of pellicle-free and pellicle-covered enamel and dentine

The aim was to analyze the protective effects of titanium, zirconium and hafnium tetrafluorides on erosion of pellicle-free and pellicle-covered enamel and dentine in vitro. Eight groups of 20 specimens each of bovine enamel and bovine dentine were prepared. Half the specimens in each group were immersed in human saliva for 2 h for pellicle formation. Specimens were then left untreated (control...

Prevention of dentine erosion by brushing with anti-erosive toothpastes.

OBJECTIVE This in vitro study aimed to investigate the preventive effect of brushing with anti-erosive toothpastes compared to a conventional fluoride toothpaste on dentine erosion. MATERIALS AND METHODS Bovine dentine specimens (n=12 per subgroup) were eroded in an artificial mouth (6 days, 6×30 s/day) using either citric acid (pH:2.5) or a hydrochloric acid/pepsin solution (pH:1.6), simulat...

Impact of the in situ formed salivary pellicle on enamel and dentine erosion induced by different acids

OBJECTIVE: To investigate and compare the protective impact of the in situ formed salivary pellicle on enamel and dentine erosion caused by different acids at pH 2.6. METHODS: Bovine enamel and dentine samples were exposed for 120 min in the oral cavity of 10 healthy volunteers. Subsequently, enamel and dentine pellicle-covered specimens were extraorally immersed in 1 ml hydrochloric, citric or...
